Remember that kids with ADHD often have other disorders of executive/sensory functions which leads them to act in ways that are outside typical ADHD behavior ie. frequent violent outbursts, OCD, or depression. ADHD is primarily inattention &/or hyperactivity, impulsivity & inability to plan/organize/follow-through on tasks.

I’ve had several parents mention that their kids act violent and angry. Everyone has bad days, but if your child has frequent, violent outbursts, it might be time to talk to a doctor – explosive behavior is not associated with ADHD…although its cause is related in that it’s usually an issue of neurology and not because the child wants to be willfully disobedient or enjoys being violent.

Here is a great book to read and better understand why some children have violent melt-downs. It’s called The Explosive Child: A New Approach for Understanding and Parenting Easily Frustrated, Chronically Inflexible Children.

Continuing on the subject of books and reading, most of you probably know that one of my go-to books is The Bible. There’s all kinds of good stuff in there, but one of my favorite parts is where Jesus says, “In this world you will have troubles. But take heart, for I have overcome the world.” This phrase gives me strength to face my struggles. Which book brings you encouragement & inspires you?
