To become a useful tool, a fidget has to lose some of it’s “new” appeal first, especially with the younger kids, so let them mess with it until it gets “old”, then allow them to bring it into situations where they need to focus. In this way, it won’t be a huge distraction, just a little one. Small enough to occupy the squirrely part of their brain so they pay attention to what’s important.

If you’re at the end of your rope with a child that is in constant need of your attention, you might be the one needing the “time out”. Consider summer camp! Some cater to kids with ADHD, others to a special interest that your child may have. Local public schools often offer day camps. Also check with your local church which may offer Vacation Bible School. A few days “off” can help get u feeling a bit more sane & hopeful.

I’m a huge movie buff! Whether it’s my ADHD or something else, turn on the TV & BAM, you’ve got my attention. Hyper-focus on movies I love means that I remember literally dozen of quotes, so I’m going to share some of them with you this week.

From Seabiscuit, a great underdog story: “You know, you don’t throw a whole life away just ’cause he’s banged up a little.” I can so relate to that! You don’t throw a whole life away, just because you have an obstacle in your life that most others don’t. No room for feeling sorry for yourself. Work hard and you will overcome!
