Remember that praise works better to motivate people w/ADHD to do the right thing than coming down hard with punishment & threats. Science has proven that ADHD is not caused by deficiency of character or morals, or poor parenting but that is a neurological disorder, like autism, or depression or OCD. Now go say something nice to that ADHDer in your life!

A few years ago, I got into doing Stand-up comedy & it was quite the learning experience. I wanted to do it & then I also didn’t. It was a scary, & unpredictable; sometimes no one laughed & it was very humbling. Worth it though because my speaking got a lot better & I learned a lot about being on stage.

A good friend of mine and a funny comedian, Kenn Kington gave me my first shot at doing a real Stand-up comedy show back in 2004. I opened up at one of his Ultimate Comedy Theatre and had a blast! This is a short clip from the show. Thanks Kenn for giving me a chance to try something totally scary!

What do you want to try that totally scares you? Find time this summer to dip your toes into “the scary” in your life. Life is too short to let fear dictate what you do & where you go in life!

This week, I am all about laughter & finding joy & hope in tough times. How else do we put one foot in front of the other, when the going gets tough if not to have an occasional light-hearted moment? If life is bumpy right now, find a way to relieve the pressure by participating in something that you know will put a smile on your face.

And I have to share this. Every time I watch I can’t help but start cracking up. Laughter is contagious, so if your life is good, go infect someone!!

Whether you have ADHD or not, the process of personal development & growth is not a walk in the park. Why? Because most of the memorable, life-changing lessons, hurt. But the resulting eduction is usually invaluable. “Any process you are going through will get tougher before it gets easier. That’s what makes learning a gift. Even though pain is your teacher.” Which movie?

The key thing to remember is that if you do learn the lesson that life is trying to teach, in that particular area of your life, things do become more clear and you start responding to situations in a powerful, life-affirming way instead of being destructive. What is life teaching you now?

At the end of the day, life is all about effort; you get out of it what you put in. If you like “warming” the bench, life will pass you by, but get in the fray and amazing things can happen: “If you put your effort and concentration into playing to your potential, to be the best that you can be, I don’t care what the scoreboard says at the end of the game, in my book we’re gonna be winners!” Which movie?

I’m a huge movie buff! Whether it’s my ADHD or something else, turn on the TV & BAM, you’ve got my attention. Hyper-focus on movies I love means that I remember literally dozen of quotes, so I’m going to share some of them with you this week.

From Seabiscuit, a great underdog story: “You know, you don’t throw a whole life away just ’cause he’s banged up a little.” I can so relate to that! You don’t throw a whole life away, just because you have an obstacle in your life that most others don’t. No room for feeling sorry for yourself. Work hard and you will overcome!

The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch was an emotional but worthwhile read. It’s a book that forces you to ask some hard questions: What’s important now? What’s my legacy? What are my dreams? Am I living life to the fullest? Great book to help you back up and look at the big picture of your life. Pretty short too! If you search Youtube, there’s also a video where Randy gives that “last lecture” that the book is based on. Really amazing! 11,000,000 views and counting if that tells you anything!
